Once you begin monitoring social media and you identify all the voices praising and possibly defaming your brand, what do you do about it? This is an important question to answer to leverage the insight you gain from monitoring social media. What you say and how you respond might either add fuel to a crisis or discourage a creative, supportive community. In this issue, Cymfony is introducing two new resources in our Influence 2.0 Webinar series that will help you develop strategies to manage both sides of influence. The Internet has become a hospitable environment for people looking to advance aggressive forms of criticism against corporations. The same social media technologies that strengthen your company’s relationship with consumers also make is easy for a single critic to mount an aggressive campaign against you. To help our clients become better prepared to respond to an online attack, we worked with the Berkman Center for Internet & Society at Harvard University to analyze some of the most prolific online attacks against companies in recent memory. This study profiles the three types of online aggressive behavior targeted at companies and summarizes the unique patterns, personal motivations and objectives of each. Connecting with Your “Citizen Marketers” Using social media tools like blogs, video sharing sites and social networks, people are creating very persuasive content about your brand – even though they have no official connection to your company. This content is reaching millions of people and it is having significant influences on their purchase decisions. In her recent book, "Citizen Marketers" author Jackie Huba profiles 4 types of people, the Filters, Fanatics, Facilitators and Firecrackers who create content, build communities and influence the opinions of many, many others. She demonstrates that citizen marketers cannot be manipulated or controlled like traditional forms of media, but they should not be ignored. We asked Jackie Huba to join us on a webinar to take you inside the heads of some influential citizen marketers so you can learn what they are looking for from the companies they embrace and how they'd like to be treated. We’ll discuss what should be done to foster more citizen marketers, and the 3 things you should never do. Plus, be a citizen marketer for this event and receive the “Citizen Marketers” book for free.
